Field Energy in Classical Gravity
نویسنده
چکیده
The problem of negative total energy of certain mass systems in classical gravity and its connection with the existence of space-time singularities is brie y summarized. Some attempts to solve this problem are discussed, pointing out especially the possibility that rest masses of a gravitating systems could depend on the strength of the gravitational eld. The results are confronted with some experimental data and the approach of Einstein's general relativity. \We are thus presented with what is perhaps the most fundamental unanswered question of general-relativistic collapse theory, namely: does there exists a \cosmic censor" who forbids the appearance of naked singularities, clothing each one in an absolute event horizon" R. Classical Spacetime from Quantum Gravity
We show how classical spacetime emerges from quantum gravity through the study of a quantum FRW cosmological model coupled to a free massive scalar field using a new asymptotic expansion method of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation. It is shown that the coherent states of the nonadiabatic basis of a particular generalized invariant give rise to the quantum back reaction of matter field proportional to...
متن کاملGravity can be neither classical nor quantized
I argue that it is possible for a theory to be neither quantized nor classical. We should therefore give up the assumption that the fundamental theory which describes gravity at shortest distances must either be quantized, or quantization must emerge from a fundamentally classical theory. To illustrate my point I will discuss an example for a theory that is neither classical nor quantized, and ...
متن کاملNon-linear stochastic inversion of 2D gravity data using evolution strategy (ES)
In the current work, a 2D non-linear inverse problem of gravity data is solved using the evolution strategies (ES) to find the thickness of a sedimentary layer in a deep-water situation where a thick sedimentary layer usually exists. Such problems are widely encountered in the early stages of petroleum explorations where potential field data are used to find an initial estimate of the basin geo...
متن کاملScalar fields, energy conditions and traversable wormholes
We describe the different possibilities that a simple and apparently quite harmless classical scalar field theory provides to violate the energy conditions. We demonstrate that a nonminimally coupled scalar field with a positive curvature coupling ξ > 0 can easily violate all the standard energy conditions, up to and including the averaged null energy condition (ANEC). Indeed, this violation of...

متن کاملAnalogue gravity from field theory normal modes?
We demonstrate that the emergence of a curved spacetime ‘effective Lorentzian geometry’ is a common and generic result of linearizing a classical scalar field theory around some non-trivial background configuration. This investigation is motivated by considering the large number of ‘analogue models’ of general relativity that have recently been developed based on condensedmatter physics, and as...
